Shortbus was awesome!

I saw Shortbus last Thursday and it rocked! I adore John Cameron Mitchell, till today, I hate myself for not going to meet him in person when he was at the Frameline Film Festival earlier this year. Sigh, it's movies like this that make me want to move to New York. Shortbus is not for everyone, most people will probably be grossed out within the first 15 minutes of the film and if you grossed out, well you're a prude! I can't believe that there are people who are labeling Shortbus as porn on some posts on the IMDB forum -- just shows how immature some people are. I'm just glad that I saw Shortbus in a theater full (well, it wasn't FULL full, but this is independent and it's already in its fourth week) of people who understood the film. A woman sitting behind me was bawling her eyes out, and I'm not talking about quiet sobs, she was bawling and sobbing heavily, and that's with her head stuffed in her boyfriend's sweater...and I thought I was intense. I mean, I was sobbing incessantly for 30 minutes after American History X, but at least I wasn't bawling.

I love Shortbus, it's a sensibility that I get. There's just something very beautiful about sadness and the flawed. It's not about perfection, it's about knowing that you're different and flawed, and accepting that as being all part of you. It's strange coming from someone who declares herself a perfectionist -- pretty ridiculous, huh? But then again, I am a little schizophrenic...my life is an organized mess, but so what? At least I know where everything is! *Grins*

Haunting melodies throughout the movie, and I love the casting -- no one fits into your regular ideal of beautiful, but for some strange reason, you can't help but find everyone really attractive -- except the naked fat woman in the club, but that's just me -- but not in the traditional sense of attractiveness. It's like you can't take your eyes off them.

Just a short post - anyone who hasn't Shortbus should go see if. I can't wait for the DVD, and the web site is cool, a little weird to navigate, but totally fun. Check it out: Shortbus Web site
