Gaga-licious!

Ahh, going gaga over Gaga in her new video Bad Romance. The Lady is looking abfab gorgeous in her new video, those lovely, lovely eyes! What's not to love - super catchy beats/lyrics, Wade Robson-esque dance moves, maxed out glam outfits (yes, that IS a polar bear rug coat!) and a good round of spot the product placements! And come on, the black crown that Lady Gaga is wearing is totally screaming Max from Where The Wild Things Are. And did Madam Gaga turn the creepy hairless cat into a hair clip at the end [3:02]? Fans of Gaga's boobie sparklers shooter from the Much Music Video Awards will be glad to know that they make a re-appearance in this video. I can literally hear drag queens around the world dropping Madonna's JPG cone bras to the floor.

Sing it with me now! “Rah-rah-ah-ah-ah-ah! Roma-roma-mamaa! Ga-ga-ooh-la-la!”

So here's what I spotted in my first viewing of the video, in order or appearance:

• 0:11 Parrot by Starck - iPhone/iPod speakers
• 0:17 Nemiroff vodka - didn't like the opening shot of the bottles at all, hard sell. Bleurgh.
• 2:02 Burberry trench
• 2:11 Nintendo wii controller and 2:45 HP laptops me thinks. If you're wondering what they're for, I think it's the bidding button of our Lady, bids going up are shown on the HP laptops.
• 3:28 Craaaaazeee gold outfit and un-missable heels from Alexander McQueen. I have no clue how anyone walks in those (apparently Daphne Guinness is doing a helluva a job though - just google "Daphne Guinness McQueen", but I would love to try! Muahaha, sometimes, I think I have a miniature drag queen inside of me who's screaming to escape.
• 3:47 Carrera sunglasses

There's a lot of product placement easter eggs in the video, see if you can spot more. Give up?

Love it when my different worlds come together - from Refinery29, check out a selection of designer duds that channel the magical world of Disney.

Sleeping Beauty was my first Disney princess, I had the VHS and the book but having the unfortunate fate of growing up in a third world country (yes Malaysia, I love you but I still consider you a semi-third world country), I didn't get to have my very own Aurora ball gown and glass slipper, but hey it's never too late! Check out the gorgeous flowy Marchesa dress from the Spring '10 collection.

Sephora ION: Crazylibellule, Burt's Bees and Bliss!

I love surprises and boy, was I was swooning when I popped by the new Sephora store over at ION. I wasn't expecting much because Sephora at Takashimaya was quite disappointing when it first opened, carried your usual departmental store brands, so snore!

But Sephora at ION? That's a whole different story! I was literally bouncing up and down, felt like a kid in a candy store - half the time, it did really feel like a candy store because some products looked & smelled good enough to be nibbled and the other half of the time, I felt like I was reunited with old friends. Sooooo good to see the familiar brands that I'm used to back in San Francisco, and here are some of my lovelies.


Crazylibellule and the poppies
I first found out about this solid perfume during an interview with style maven Antonia and completely fell in love with the packaging. The great news is, Sephora now carries the entire range of Crazysticks (that's what they call their solid perfume) from Crazylibellule and the poppies! Crazylibellule is a tiny French company, and they offer with a wide range of scents that contains no alcohol, paraben or artificial coloring. It looks like a finger-size mini deodorant stick but oh, the packaging - it completely oozes charm! I'm betting that you'll get lots of oohs and ahhs when you whip out your own Crazystick!

Who can resist names like Shanghaijava, Poule de Luxe and scents like Vanilla Lemon Pie (my favorite!), Litchi Blossom and In Your Arms, which contains sandalwood, juniper berries, peach & cedar? For the curious, "libellule" means dragonfly in French.


Burt's Bees
I love Burt's Bees! I swear by their Beeswax Lip Balm with Peppermint and have used it for more than six years - through cold New York winters, San Francisco's foggy summers and Singapore's balmy days. And lo and behold, Sephora's Burt's Bees range is mind-blowing! They carry almost the entire product range, from their basic skincare range to the Naturally Ageless products. Completely buzzing with excitement now that I no longer have to stock up on lip balm like there's no tomorrow every time I'm back in the States! Ooo, and it helps that Burt's Bees is another feel-good brand - all their products use natural ingredients. So natural, it's safe for babies! You can't say no to Rosemary Soap Bars, Lemon Poppy Seed Facial Cleanser and Banana Hand Cream!


Bliss
Ahhh...Bliss. The product name says it all. The New York spa brand's own range of products finally arrives on our shores. All I have to do is pop the covers of of any Bliss product and the scent transports me back to one of the calming, therapeutic spas. And no, lil' ol' me never had the chance to try one of their spa sessions, but I did hang out (as long as I could!) at the Bliss Spa at San Francisco's W Hotel when I was loading up on their products. With product names like FatGirl, LoveHandler, The Youth As We Know It and Soapy Suds - it's definitely products with attitude! I dare you to say no to their bath range, with smells like sage, lemon, blood orange, white pepper, bergamot - feels like I'm listing my favorite things!

And of course, Sephora also stocks Dr Hauschka, Frederic Fekkai, Too Faced and Bare Escentuals. I think I also spotted Cargo and Nars, but I could be wrong. Oh well, more reasons for another visit!

UPDATE: Whoa, Bryanboy in WSJ!

Ooo -- this is why I'm a bigger fan of the US than the UK (o, it's not THE one reason, but one of the many bazillions).

It's New York Fashion Week and InStyle US hinted at a shift of power with fashion bloggers such as Bryanboy, Susie Bubble and Rumi Neely taking front row at the Michael Angel show.

From InStyle US: "It seems fashion bloggers are the new It crew at New York Fashion Week..."

But from across the pond, just a month ago, the feroush Bryanboy so helpfully pointed out, InStyle UK had this to say about Bryan Boy in a round-up of fashion bloggers on the Internets:

From InStyle UK: Bryan Boy – Another small time fashion blogger made good. So good infact Marc Jacobs named a bag after him!

Lesson to be learned here: Never call anybody "small time." Honestly, no small time blogger gets that much love from the Marc Jacobs! I may not have a job with InStyle but at least I know "in fact" as a phrase should be two words instead of one. And honestly, the writing needs work - the InStyle UK writer definitely did not do justice to the fantabulous fashion bloggers.

PS: I have big love for fashion bloggers coz it's refreshing to see real people rocking designer duds coupled with their own sense of fierce style. And granted, the bloggers tend to have louder fashion style & voices than the general public, but who wants to be the general public - snore. Somehow, although the price tags are still incredibly shocking, the duds seem somehow more accessible in the hands of these bloggers. Repeat after me: Who needs to eat when you're rockin' that Louboutin!

Anna Sui dresses Gossip Girl

Today is turning out to be Fashion Friday on my blog. Makes me want to do a round of shopping over at ModCloth and I'm still hunting down a gold disc necklace that I saw on Weeds and I'm completely in love with it!

If you're an Anna Sui and Gossip Girl fan, this is likely your pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. From September 13 through October, you'll be able to buy to your heart's content the Anna Sui Collection for Target, inspired by Gossip Girl characters Blair, Serena, Vanessa and Lil' J. There are only 19 looks in the collection but lots of options to mix and match. If you must, the collection will be available at selected Target stores and Target.com.

I like Anna Sui's concept of the rock & rock doll-like girl with a dash of vintage, and I'm a big fan of the outfits from Gossip Girl but nothing is screaming "buy me" from the look book - but there are some really fun ideas to wear outfits that you'll probably already have in the wardrobe. And if you like fall colors, the collection's made for you - from warm autumn browns, dashes of blue hues and it won't be Anna Sui without a generous dose of black lace! I don't buy clothes from Target (it's not Target, it's just that the last time I shopped for clothes at departmental stores was when Mum had to take me shopping) but if I had to pick one to wear, it'll probably blue & yellow flower brown print dress.

My Multiple Personalities

I doubt anyone's noticed, but I had a bout of obsessive compulsive behavior yesterday and decided to re-organize all the post on my blog. I really like how Pat categorizes her posts on Blankanvas, and like they say, imitation is the highest form of compliment - so I've plonked all my posts since 2005 into 7 categories (for now!).

Each of categories represent a side of me - at one point, I was tempted to add category #8: The Opinionated Loudmouth / The Bitch - but that might include most of my posts, so #8's on hold for now. Here's a run-down of what each Mutiple Personality / category means, so all related posts can be found in its lil' box. The common denominator is of course, moi - whatever amuses, interests or pisses me off will appear on this blog.

• The Film Snob: Everything related to the latest movies, actors, TV series, general celeb gossip, as long as it's a movie/person that I'm digging. I can only wish that this was my life - everyday!


• The Accidental Geek: This includes posts on the latest gadgets that I'm oooh-ing over or interesting new social media tools that are useful or just plain fun. Why "accidental geek?" Well - I never started out wanting to be geeky or technical, but somehow fell into it when I wrote (yes, wrote in HTML) my first web site when I was 15, worked on Yahoo! and VMware for the past few years and tech comes quite easily to me. And I like my toys!


• The Malaysian: Ahh, I think one of the reasons why I'm this random, this confused and this contradictory is because I'm Malaysia. This category answers the big question, "What does it mean to be Malaysia?" At least, most of the time, but always from my perspective.


• The PR Girl: This is a strange label but I guess when your work consumes 12 hours of your day, your work becomes a large part of your life. So, interestingly enough, tech & social media items would fall under this category as well, along with other marketing related items that inspire and made me go, "what didn't I think of that?" I hope to one day The PR Girl will meet The Film Snob and then, I'll live happily ever after.


• The Quirky Fashionista: I love beautiful things, especially clothing & accessories that are lovingly handcrafted. Again, items that I'm ooh-ing over will appear here. While it's unlikely that I'll be checking out the runways of Milan anytime soon, I appreciate people who have their own sense of style as long as they're fierce!


• The Queen of Random: There are days when the weirdest thing will catch my attention - whether I'm complaining about microwaved frozen PB&J sandwiches or an escaped ostrich - this is my blender of random things that cross my mind.


• The Girl: This is where my inner girl lives - she cries, she vents, she swoons, she loves (oops, loved) her boybands. I guess this is my sprinkle of fairy dust section.

PS: I meant to take shots of me for each category but erm, maybe next time!

I like RDJ, but he seems to be have taken on a more comedic persona in his last few films and I can't shake it off. I like my vampires dark, brooding and slightly depressed, especially if the Anne Rice vampires. So I'm not convinced. [Bloody-Disgusting]


• Seriously? First she ruins So You Think You Can Dance's 100th episode, now she plans to rob poor housewives and their baby daughters of their cash. Mrs. Tom Cruise aka Katie "Droopy Eyes" Holmes is launching a new line of clothes that she co-designed with her stylist Jeanne Yang, "creatively" named Holmes & Yang. *rolls eyes* Not sure who gave Holmes the idea that she can design - her previous Holmes & Yang outfits looked like someone got too scissors-happy with silk, lace, leather and dark-blue duct tape, and loves to be matchy-matchy. Coolest wedding invites ever!

Randomly came across the Offbeat Bride web site and wow, talk about unconventional weddings! Say goodbye to boring white wedding dresses, store-bought wedding invites and multi-tiered wedding cakes that look like the florist attacked it. Some of my favorites here!

Talk about creative - when two graphic designers decided to tie the knot, they made 3-D Viewmaster invites (yes, 3-D!) and sent them out to their friends and family. Isn't DJ Domo the cutest?

Someone stop me! I have a ahem, healthy obsession with cute bags, especially clutches and things are not looking good for my Orla Kiely wallet when I saw these luxurious handmade clutches from Red Ruby Rose over at Etsy.

Aren't they gorgeous? Swoon. Nothing like vintage-inspired prints and silk lining! My favorite clutches - vintage Playgirl, whiskey-flask inspired box and button-frenzy clutches - are starting to get lonely.

Susan Boyle in Harper's Bazaar

Ok, I take back what I said about Susan Boyle looking like Camilla Parker-Bowles. I was just being mean. Everyone's beautiful in their own way. Karma, karma.

Britain's Got Talent overnight sensation Susan Boyle looks gorgeous in a makeover and Harper's Bazaar photo shoot. Sigh, a pound of makeup, cupfuls of hair teasing, a dash of professional lighting, a heaping tablespoon of a good photographer and pinches of Photoshop. Bake in oven till slightly resembling high fashion and tadaa, Susan Boyle looking as lovely as ever!

Nothing says classic like the black and white shot although the arm shelf is questionable and the purple Michael Kors dress gives her a pop of color, no clue why she's standing under the photo frame though.

Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt channel Bonnie & Clyde

Adorable! Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are officially my favorite cute couple...on screen! For us poor folks outside of the US who will have to wait for (500) Days of Summer (the movie opens nationwide in the US this Friday), Zooey and Joseph have made a music video about a bank heist -- yes, it's completely unrelated to (500) Days of Summer which is about their summer love.

But since Zooey didn't get to dance in (500) Days (yes, Joseph dances!), the movie's director Marc Webb and two leads decided that it'll be fun to make a music video as a extra for everyone! Watch the video over at USA Today - silly embed link is not working!

Think 1960s style Bonnie and Clyde-esque, but with rainbows and unicorns (ok, there are no unicorns in the video) but there are back flips, splits and table top dancing!

You heard it here first -- Joseph Gordon-Levitt is the new Heath Ledger! Wooohoo, knew he was hot back in his 3rd Rock from the Sun days! Gosh, watch the video and you'll notice that they even have the same dimples. Scary, but oh-so-cute! He's the only reason why I'm heading to the cinemas this weekend to watch G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra!

Does your style reflect your life's choices?

I love this photo from The Sartorialist, one of my favorite sites ever! Whenever I'm in need of a good pick me up and coffee doesn't work, The Sartorialist does wonders! Even though half the time I leave the web site thinking, damn it - why am I stuck in Singapore when there's a world out there to see?

Anyway, the reason why this is my pic of the moment is because I adore the way this girl looks! Love her hair, her cute lil' hat, the white dress and how cute are those shoes! Love how everything seems randomly put together, yet it's a perfectly put-together look!

Which got me thinking - hmm, I wonder if people who think the same of me if someone snapped a photo of me and posted it on their web site? Yes, yes, if you know me, you'll notice that I go through bouts of narcissism every now and then. But it's true! When I shop, I buy random pieces of clothing and/or accessories because I love the way it looks, not because it's a designer label or it's this season's must-have. I go with whatever I like, and I never ever mentally visualize how the new item will fit in with the rest of my wardrobe, coz afterall, if the common denominator is me, that should be sufficient, no?

And that's the way I dress, with reckless abandon! I throw pieces of random things together, and I've done ethnic, classy black, vintage and I think I'm now in my "let's go crazy over prints" stage. I'm kicking myself for not buying more of the gorgeous dresses made out of Marimekko fabric that I bought at Sydney's Paddington Market - three was so not enough!

What's scary is that I have a niggling voice inside that's telling me that I approach life the same way I approach my sense of style - picking up random pieces of experiences and tossing them together, and hoping, with fingers tightly crossed that it'll all turn out into a quirky final product that's truly me? It's hard to say. Random thought, but is there a tinge of truth in this?
